Sixteen graduates were honored for outstanding achievement during the recent spring commencement ceremonies that took place at the 国产AV. Fifteen students received the Keller Key, and one student received the Turris Fidelis award.

Leo III, the third lion to call the 国产AV home, passed away peacefully on the evening of Thursday, May 2, after a brief illness at the George H. Carroll Lion Habitat on the UNA campus. He was 21.
In an ambitious move to empower the tech workforce of Florence, and for a second year, Code Alabama, which is offered by the 国产AV Center for Learning and Professional Development, has announced a comprehensive six-week Python training program aimed at community and business members wanting to develop a tech skill.
Spring commencement ceremonies at the 国产AV are set for Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Norton Auditorium.
The third UNAfied Dinner, a showcase of the creative culinary skills of students in the Jeff Eubanks Culinary Arts Management program at the 国产AV is scheduled for Thursday, April 25 at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center.
Four 国产AV alumni will be inducted into the inaugural Greek Hall of Fame as part of the upcoming 50th anniversary weekend celebrating Fraternity and Sorority Life at UNA.
Dr. Brien Smith, of Youngstown State University, has been named the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the 国产AV after an extensive nationwide search. His tenure at UNA is expected to begin around June 1.
Students in the Jeff Eubanks Culinary Arts Management and Digital Media programs have once again partnered with Singin鈥 River Brewery for the annual brew challenge which is set for April 11 at the Singin鈥 River Brewery on East College Street.
Homecoming weekend at the 国产AV has been set for Oct. 11-12. Shine On, Gold has been selected as this year鈥檚 theme in honor of the ongoing comprehensive campaign to raise $100 million for the University.
A 国产AV team competed recently in the Student Bowl at the Southeast American College of Sports Medicine conference. The team from UNA鈥檚 Department of Kinesiology placed 5th in the Southeast chapter, which includes 10 states and averages approximately 1,200 attendees at the annual meeting.
The 国产AV has recently completed its reaffirmation process with its accrediting agency 鈥 the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges 鈥 with no findings and no recommendations for follow up. This is the best possible outcome for any SACSCOC institution. The reaffirmation process takes place every 10 years and entails a campus-wide effort that involves academic and non-academic areas as well as members of the community.
Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) has spearheaded an effort to secure special funding for a dedicated engineering building for the 国产AV. The $13 million appropriation was included as part as part of a larger federal spending bill which was recently signed by President Biden.
Three of the robotics teams from Kilby Laboratory School have qualified for the VEX Robotics World Competition, which is slated for April 29 through May 4 in Dallas. Only 13 VEX World slots were available for Alabama, and the Kilby teams earned their berths after winning at the regional competition that took place recently in Auburn.
FLORENCE, AL 鈥 The 国产AV Division of Advancement has recently launched Healthcare Heroes Plaza; the site is directly in front of the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions, which is housed in Harrison Hall, and is designed to honor UNA alumni and friends who serve in a healthcare or healthcare-related field.
Dr. Butler Cain, a Communication Professor at the 国产AV, has been invited to present a series of lectures at the Nuremberg Institute of Technology in Nuremberg, Germany, in May. The Ohm Lecturship Program is invitation-only and aims to 鈥減romote internationality in teaching and to increase the number of lectures in [the] English language,鈥 according to the institute.
Kilby Laboratory School鈥檚 Robotics Program recently qualified for the Alabama State Regional VEX IQ Championship competition that recently took place at Auburn University. Only 40 teams from the state earned the chance to compete in this competition, with an impressive six teams hailing from Kilby Laboratory, which is on the 国产AV campus.
The Department of Social Work at the 国产AV is celebrating its 50th anniversary. This will be commemorated during its annual Social Work Conference on March 12 that will be from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the of the Guillot University Center.
FLORENCE, AL 鈥 The Sunseri Speaker Series at the 国产AV will feature Chef Lisa Ramsey, who will deliver a presentation titled 鈥淗ow Science, Music, and Art Influence the Culinary World.鈥 The event will take place March 19 at 6 p.m. in the Performance Center of the Guillot University Center on the UNA campus.
Light the Fountain, the beloved springtime tradition on the 国产AV campus, is set for 6:30 p.m. March 14 at Harrison Fountain and Plaza. Joel Anderson II, a member of the UNA Board of Trustees as well as a co-chair of the Shine On, Gold comprehensive campaign for UNA, is slated to light the fountain at 7:30 p.m.
The month of March is meaningful at the 国产AV for a few reasons 鈥 Light the Fountain takes place; students, faculty, and staff disperse for Spring Break; and, perhaps most important of all, UNA embarks on a tradition of encouraging 1,830 donors to give to the institution throughout March as part of the 1830 Giving Initiative.
