Dr. Johnson Ogun

Culinary Arts Management

Dr. Johnson Ogun is an accomplished professional and university professor with a potent combination of culinary skills and institutional experience. He received his BSc in Finance and MSc in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Western Kentucky University and his Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama. Dr. Ogun was awarded the “Most Outstanding Graduate Student” certificate in his final year at the University of Alabama.

Dr. Ogun has a potent combination of culinary experience, management skills, and instructional experience. Dr. Ogun is a Bi-lingual, result-driven, highly motivated professional with exceptional leadership skills. Dr. Ogun is a hands-on team player who can work hard under pressure. Dr. Ogun’s experience in the hospitality industry includes but is not limited to responsibility for a smooth transition of new hotel accusations, supervision of multimillion-dollar hotel renovations, and responsible for supervising and training all department heads in completing budgets and holding department heads accountable for results in their respective departments.

As a culinary and hospitality professional, Dr. Ogun consistently meets or exceeds company goals and objectives. Before joining the UNA faculty, Dr. Ogun worked for over 25 years in the hospitality industry (Holiday Inn (IHG) Corporation). During those years, he held several titles, including Executive Chef, Director of Food and Beverage, and General Manager at several hotel properties. He was knowledgeable about both front and back-of-the-house operations in the hospitality industry. After many years of managing and training young graduates, Dr. Ogun changed careers to become a university professor and help shape younger minds.

Dr. Ogun trained over 75 students transitioning from college to management positions in the industry in the last ten years. Dr. Ogun contributed to creating Culinary Arts at UNA 17 years ago and assumed the Director of Culinary Arts/professor position with over 50 students in the program. Dr. Ogun, a ServSafe instructor and proctor, also serves the community by proctoring and certifying local restaurant employees in ServSafe certification. He has advanced from adjunct professor to his current rank of full professor at UNA. Dr. Ogun is an excellent professor who motivates students, and as a professional, Dr. Ogun consistently meets and exceeds company goals and objectives.
