The Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of Political Science are collaborating on an Education Abroad program that spends two weeks abroad. This study abroad course is a combination that can be taken separately or together for German and Political Science credit. The course will begin with domestic study Foreign Policy, utilizing the EU and Germany's integration into that body as a case study of governmental and intergovernmental policy. The Study abroad component of this course will include a tour of key locations for German history, EU politics, and even UN bodies. Our travel begins in Frankfurt (the home of the EU Central Bank) then moves through Aachen, Monchau, Maastricht, Trier, Luxembourg City, Saarbrucken, and Bonn to learn and understand the complex history of European Integration, Policy, and its role in International Affairs.

Travel Considerations:

• Extensive Travel (i.e., possible overnight travel, unplanned or unforeseeable itinerary changes, etc.)
• Using various modes of transportation (i.e., cars, trains, buses, planes, boats, bicycles, etc.)
• Walking long distances
• Walking/hiking up/down hills/stairs
• Standing/sitting for a long period of time, waiting in line 
• Lifting and/or carrying your personal luggage (i.e., luggage weighing up to 50 to 70 lbs.)
• Nonstandard meal times, some unfamiliar foods or limited dietary options

Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions: This program provides an immersive cross-cultural experience, bridging Guizhou’s unique ethnic heritage and historical educational traditions with its rapid modern industrial and technological advancement. Students will link academic theory to real-world engineering practices and social evolution within a globalized context. Students will engage with Guizhou's multi-ethnic society, enhancing their understanding of global diversity and inter-ethnic harmony. By interacting with Guizhou University (GZU) faculty and visiting cutting-edge industrial facilities, students will enrich their professional skillsets and global career perspectives. 

Activities include:

• Company/lab tours in smart/advanced manufacturing 
• Technical chats with practitioners 
• Cultural workshops (tea culture)
• Guided site walks 
• Field visits

Travel Considerations:

During the field trip days, moderate physical activity is required, averaging around 15,000 steps a day, which includes walking and light hiking on mountain terrain (such as visiting the geological park and scenic areas). For the remainder of the itinerary, daily walking is relatively light and moderate, consisting mainly of campus orientation, classroom activities, and urban exploration. Participants should be comfortable with outdoor walking on uneven or sloped surfaces during the excursion days.

History: The 2027 Scotland Study Abroad Program will immerse students in Scotland’s cultural landscapes through hands-on research in Edinburgh, Newbattle, Loch Tay, and Dunbar. Trees will provide a central lens for exploring how landscapes preserve evidence of human activity, environmental change, memory, and community identity. Working with Scottish heritage professionals, students will conduct archival and map research, oral histories, site documentation, landscape mapping, tree surveys, and visitor surveys at locations including Newbattle Abbey College, the Scottish Crannog Centre, and Edinburgh Castle. Through two courses—Building a Living Archive and Scotland’s Heritage Landscape—students will learn to combine historic records, contemporary mapping data, community memories, and field observations. At Newbattle, they will document a historic beech tree and investigate its connections to the Abbey, College, surrounding landscape, and generations of people who have experienced the site. Students will use their research to create a digital StoryMap and will prepare short research and assessment reports for program partners. The program will strengthen their skills in historical research, oral history, digital mapping, heritage interpretation, and collaborative fieldwork while helping them understand trees and landscapes as living archives of historical and environmental change. Students will complete a number of special projects with partners including Historic Environment Scotland, Archeology Scotland, and the Scottish Crannog Centre. Students will also attend a workshop with Dendrochronicle.

Travel Considerations: Participants can expect to average 15-20k steps a day and experience fieldwork conducted in outdoor locations with variable weather conditions. Students will be updated on weather appropriate items for packing.

Spanish Foreign language and Global Studies: Join the Department of Foreign Languages and spend a month in beautiful Salamanca, Spain. Students will immerse themselves in the heart of Spain and significantly enhance their Spanish skills in Salamanca, a city famous for its beautiful architecture and rich heritage. This isn't just a trip—students experience the language and culture firsthand and discover Spain's fascinating history through cultural activities, studies, and homestays. The program includes weekend excursions to iconic palaces and museums in Avila, Segovia, Madrid, Toledo, and Bilbao. Students are required to register for two (2) UNA classes affiliated with the trip and complete their work accordingly. All levels of Spanish ability are welcome to apply to the program, and you don’t have to be a major or minor in Spanish to participate!

Travel Considerations: Participants will walk an average of 20k steps per day, including climbing stairs. Participnats will be responsible for carrying their own luggage. Some summers can have extreme heat temperatures and not all areas have air conditioning.

Geography and History: The Jamaica Study Abroad Program will involve trips in and around the island. We will learn about Jamaican culture, food, music and urbanization in capital city of Kingston, hike a coffee farm in the Blue Mountains, learn about tourism and historical legacies in Ocho Rios, as well as notable scenic visits across central and southern Jamaica. Students will be required to complete daily field activities involving reflections on the various trips and their connection with the course material. Some field activities will involve asking questions of Jamaican locals. Students can get credit for two courses in one trip!

Tavel Considerations: Participants should be able to hike up moderate inclines for about 2 hours at about 3000 ft above sea level, be comfortable to ride on a motor boat, and expect to walk 5 - 10,000 steps a day.

Students will participate in a meaningful service-learning project with a community-based agricultural enterprise dedicated to sustainable farming, environmental stewardship, and healthy living. Participants may assist with marketing, social media outreach, educational materials, and other initiatives that support the organization's growth and community impact. Through hands-on involvement, students will gain insight into sustainable agricultural practices, local food systems, and the important connection between agriculture, nutrition, and community wellness—all while making a lasting impact on the local community. They will get to visit San Jose and Manuel Antonio on the coast. 

Travel Considerations: Students should have a moderate level of physical fitness and be comfortable participating in outdoor activities, walking/hiking for extended periods, possible water activity on the coast, and navigating uneven terrain.

Discover Italy through an engaging experience that combines culture, history, and global business. 国产AV with students, universities, and businesses while gaining a deeper understanding of international perspectives. From exploring famous destinations to experiencing everyday Italian life, you’ll build meaningful connections, broaden your worldview, and gain experiences that can support your future academic and professional goals. Students will visit a variety of leading businesses and cultural landmarks throughout Italy, including a Stock Exchange (Borsa Italiana) tour, Wave Murano Glass Factory, and the Gucci Museum. Cultural experiences will include a day trip to Pompeii, a guided tour of Florence Cathedral, and guided visits to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill, along with many other exciting experiences. Cities include Rome, Milan, Venice, Naples, and Florence.

This program gives students the opportunity to explore the cultures, innovation, and global business environments of Taipei, Taiwan and Tokyo, Japan. Students will network with global companies and locals while gaining valuable international experience. Along the way, they’ll visit businesses in financial services, ICT, AI, and robotics, explore the National Palace Museum, and participate in cultural experiences such as a sushi-making class and a tea ceremony. Students will explore Taipei’s Xinyi District, the heart of Taiwan’s financial sector and home to major banks, fintech firms, and capital markets institutions. In Tokyo, students will experience the city’s thriving technology landscape, including districts such as Shibuya and Roppongi, which are home to leading global and Japanese tech companies, as well as Odaiba, a hub for innovation and emerging technologies.

Students will explore Danish culture, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business through interactive sessions, company visits, and collaboration with International Business Academy. Gain firsthand experience with Denmark’s sustainable and innovative business practices while networking with international students and professionals. The program will include an entrepreneurial pitch competition, giving students the chance to showcase their ideas, receive industry feedback, and build valuable global business skills. Cities include Kolding, Denmark and Malmo, Sweden.
